“A nation’s culture resides in the
hearts and in the soul of its people.”
In this quote Ghandi
means that the people and their actions represent the country of India. This is
demonstrated in various scenes in the Ghandi movie, when Ghandi has to
constantly tell his followers to rally peacefully and to not fight back when
they are abused. This is to represent India as a peaceful, and calm country who
is not afraid to fight back
“Action
expresses priorities.”
This means that to
show that you care about something you need to get up and do something about
it. This is represented throughout the movie when Ghandi fights for India’s
freedom. For example, when Ghandi walks to the coast of India to harvest salt
from the sea.
From this film I gained
insight into what the people of India were facing from the British, I learned
about the discrimination put upon coloured people in various other British
colonised countries such as south Africa and such. But most of all I gained
insight into how one man, standing up to a whole system that has been established
for years prior can make such a difference to the world. I think Hinduism, with
its different social classes can really drive a person like Ghandi to want to
experience it all, such as spending some time in the lowest social status to
gain appreciation for those people and I think this is what also drives him to
fight for his cause.
Jonny,
ReplyDeleteWell done on this blog. I would have liked more specifics for the contexts in the movie. Also, how does religion challenge us to LIVE IT OUT, especially in Gandhi's case?
